About the EoE HCS Trainee Network

The East of England Healthcare Science Trainee Network was set up in 2015 to connect healthcare science trainees on the NHS's graduate Scientific Training Programme (STP), with the aspiration of expanding to include those doing Higher Specialist Scientific Training (HSST), as well as trainees on the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP).

The National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) has asked every region to develop a trainee network in order to facilitate communication with and support of trainees. Many regional networks also run events to help trainees achieve competences, as well as get to know one another. More information can be found on the NSHCS website

If you are a STP of HSST trainee in the East of England, this network is for you! Please register using this form so that we can contact you with important news from the NSHCS, as well as information about events and training that we are running.

The Network is run by a small board, which currently consists of two Co-Chairs, one Secretary and one Events Co-ordinator, all of whom were co-opted and are currently entering their third year of training. We meet quarterly at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge, and welcome attendance from all trainees and trainers at our meetings. Volunteers for joining the board are very welcome! It is really good experience and achieves several professional practice competences - additionally, it can provide a competitive advantage when interviewing for jobs.

Events are organised by sub-groups of both board and non-board members. We run an annual Welcome Event in September so that new trainees can meet current trainees and hear some more information about the programme, and an Inter-Disciplinary Cases Workshop in late spring which, as well as providing evidence for at least four professional practice competences and an opportunity for reflection, is a really fun and interesting afternoon that helps us to understand what our colleagues in different specialisms do, and to gain a greater understanding of the entire patient pathway. We also hope to develop further trainee-led events throughout the year; additionally, Health Education East of England run a half-day conference every February for STPs in the region, which we encourage trainees to attend.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please email us at the address shown above, eoehcs@gmail.com. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
